As anyone who frequents this forum will know, there have recently been a large amount of topics about the 'Twilight' series by Stephanie Meyer. In the hope of consolidating some of the discussion, I have decided to create a general topic. Please use this topic to discuss: - Whether or not you have read the books and whether or not you're planning to
- What you thought of the books
- Your expectations for future books
- Your expectations of the film
- The books in general
Please click here to read the first chapter of Breaking Dawn. Discussion of this chapter should be limited to this topic. If you have a topic related to the books that would benefit from more in-depth discussion, then please feel free to post your own topic, but we will expect most issues to be contained to this topic and other topics will be locked or deleted. The Twilight series consists of Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse. Breaking Dawn, the fourth in the series, is not yet published. The plot is centred around Bella Swan, a young woman who falls in love with a vampire, Edward Cullen. Post edited at 11:17 am on June 2, 2008 by Periwinkle

I think Cleolinda on LiveJournal put it best: The Twilight books are like Twinkies. Twinkies are not a gourmet dessert and, really, aren't very good for you. If you want to ingest that number of calories and ruin your figure, there are many tastier desserts you could choose, but sometimes, you're just craving the not-so-good fluff of a Twinkie. Same is true of Twilight. As far as writing and plot go, the books are extremely lacking and, it could be argued, the only real three-dimensional character in the whole series is Jacob Black. But sometimes, you need something that's not-so-good and fluffy...and, in this case, sparkly. That said, anyone who's going to argue that the Twilight books are great literature should be strapped down and forced to read Jane Austen novels until her eyes fall out.

Haha. I think it's amusing how Twilight needs a sticky. It deserves one though, I was getting really sick of Twilight threads every few posts. Personally, I can't deal with Twilight myself. I've read up to Eclipse, but not without eye rolling and cringing every few pages or paragraphs. I think the worst thing about Twilight is the MASSIVE fanbase it has. I can understand the Harry Potter fanbase, Lord of the Rings, Narnia, hell even Star Trek... but Twilight? Someone posted above comparing Twilight to a twinkie and I think that has some truth in it. However, I don't think that explains the mass love of Twilight. Honestly, I think the popularity of this book is such a tragic commentary on our times. Bad character development, cheesy dialogue, horrid writing... is that really the sort of "literature" that appeals to people now? Really.

How amazingly true. Some books are like twinkies, or other yummy bad for you hostess delights. the twiglight series def. falls in that category.
