It seems to be movie more about fear induced by the news channels, (ABC,CBS, NBC, CNN etc) than about gun violence.  Notice the part about Canada with 7 million gun owners and not such much gun violence.  I think his point was more about media, movie images than actual gun control.

I really do believe that media plays a big role in this. I remember the Canada part and especially when he asked the reporter,
"If there was a baby drowning and a shooting going on, which one would you make a report on?"
"The shooting."

And I lol'd when he started going into the Canadians houses without even knocking just to see if they locked the door, (which they didn't)
