Your tampon isn't in far enough if you can still feel it. You shouldn't be able to feel it at all, and that you can feel it when you sit down sounds like it just isn't in far enough. Make sure you put it in as far as you can, yeah? Don't worry about doing that - it's safe and the tampon won't get lost inside you or anything like that. You don't have to remove the tampon when you pee if you don't want to - obvious just make sure the string is out of the way :P I personally change my tampon when I go to the bathroom, as it just feels cleaner and generally better.
It's recommended that you should change it every 4 - 8 hours.
