Reasoning:
I've always looked up to Support Leaders. Even in the early days of my membership when I was quite naive. I didn't really know what they did, but I thought it was nice to have people that provide genuine support for those that need it. I think I've filled out two or so PSL applications, and both of these were way back during this time. Since then I've come to understand and fully appreciate the amount of effort and time that Support Leaders invest in not only the eHelp system, but the Serious Forum as well as the other general help forums. The eHelp system is unique to Livewire, and is one of the reasons I'd like to become a Peer Support Leader. As a normal member I can contribute to topics and give supportive replies in the forums, but I cannot access the eHelp system. I've read through lots of past eHelps, and I've even asked a question on it myself. There are no amount of words that can really explain how amazing the Support Leaders are that contribute to the supportive aspect of the website and how appreciative I am personally when I was in my time of need. I'd love nothing more than to become one of them. I'd like to help out and give something back to the community that I've been a part of for over a year. I feel slightly disappointed that I wasn't so determined to do this before, because I can give amazing advice, I just have to work at it and go that extra mile.
I'm not going to say I've had a hard life, because there are so many other people just on Livewire that I can be compared to that would put my words to shame. I've had a nice life, but I've also grown up with problems of my own. These problems that I've gone past and battled through, problems that I can give advice for to others in similar situations. Growing up as the middle child with and older and younger sister wasn't easy for me personally. I always felt like I had to battle for the attention of my parents, and even when I got I felt like they didn't pay that much attention to me. It was hard, but I pulled through it. I have quite a lot of experience I can apply from this, as well as the friendships that I had to fight through. I can use this to apply to a variety of situations, and I am confident I'll be able to help in not only the eHelp system, but the Serious Forum and the general forums.
But this application isn't about me as a person, and it shouldn't be. This is about helping others, and that's what it should always be about. I'm glad that this position is hard, I've seen many people get rejected and it's for the better. A strict selection process allows the members to be sifted through to make sure only those that can really contribute and those that are really dedicated can get a place. Being a Peer Support Leader isn't an easy nor a simple job, and I fully understand that. We do need members of high calibre to answer to eHelps, because they are supposed to offer critical help to members in need, not some third rate answers that you may be able to find in the general forum area.
I love Livewire. I spend a great deal of time here, and I think that I have a personal obligation to be able to offer help to those that need it the most. I'm on here almost every single day, so I should at least give something back to the community that's helped me before. I could do this as a normal member, sure, but being a Peer Support Leader will allow me to answer eHelp messages as well as reply directly to the Serious Forum. With the Support Leader title members will see that and it will allow them to put greater faith in my advice and in me. I feel that I will be able to become a great Support Leader, one that people will be able to rely on and trust.
