Is it possible to dye your hair a right red when your hair is already dyed black? Obviously I'm gonna have to bleach it first but does the bleach work very well when your hair is that dark?

I've read on some bleach packets that it won't work so well on black hair, but I'm not at all too sure.

My friend had dyed jet black hair and she wanted her natural sort of light brown back and it was very difficult to get back to that. The hairdresser tried so many things to get rid of the black and in the end the best it looked was not really nice. It was very clumpy and blotchy.

You're gonna have to bleach it at least 2 times, then use a white toner if you want a true red. I suggest bleaching at a hairdresser, and I suggest doing it like, once a week for two weeks. Then use the white toner. It'll be a long process but if it's what you really want, I guess it's worth it.
