VW are set to release a limited run of VWs named as the 1 litre, it has a 1 litre, 1 cylinder turbo diesel with a tiny 8.5hp and 13.5lbft but this is okay because the entire car weights 600pounds, made completely of magnesium and carbon fibre, the entire front axle and suspension has only a combined weight of 18 pounds, sure these materials are costly but VW predicts that within 4 years the cars build costs will decrease by 300% and VW plans to make it fully Mainstream by 2012, more on the article here.
