The problem is, that not everybody CAN be helped, and not everybody WANTS to be helped, and sometimes even when you CAN and they WANT it, it's best to let them do it themselves. Good motives aren't always enough. Sweet as the sentiment in that movie might be, it's insanely naive.
Well, not everyone goes as deep as the movie did in the first place, so you can't expect all these detailed what-ifs to be explained. Like, what if they didn't want help? stuff like that. That's the thing, it's not just good motives. If you were to actually figure out what they need, then it would be what they need. You might just figure out that they need to take care of it themselves though, so you help them by not stepping in.
