i have noticed with my friends and stuff, people talking about celebrities and rich people. everyone goes on about how they are so selfish, spending tens of thousands of dollars on things like watches and handbags and shoes... i agree that this is stupid. i mean why on earth should someone spend $10000 on a handbag! but no one seems to see that we are the same. we waste thousands and thousands of dollars on clothes, fast food, lollies, icecream, alcohol, drugs, gambling, movies and entertainment...... yeah sure you might be like 'oh i dont buy more clothes than i need' you only NEED a few outfits, to survive, be warm and comfortable. to FIT IN in our society you need alot more. you need new clothes regularily. how many clothes do you have that you never wear? millions of kids get one change of clothes a year, if they are lucky. how much money do you spend on food that you dont need? snacks, chocolate, lollies... everyone in our society loves to look down on those people who are richer, saying that they should donate more money, they should buy less things. well to fit in with their class they 'need' these things as well. we are just as bad as them. to get the world out of poverty, people need to acually change their lifestyle. instead of becoming fashion designers or accounants or running buisnesses which value money above peoples lives... more people should become doctors and nurses and teachers and help the people who actually need it. i am not trying to say that i am better than anyone else, because im not, and im not trying to say that everyone is like this or steryotyping people. it just really really disturbs me how people can watch a video about children being forced to do slave labour for 15 hours a day for a few cents wage, not being able to eat, not having clean water, having their parents die... and just dismiss it a minute later. walk off laughing with their friends. not even want to donate $5 to try and help out someone less fortunate than them. why cant people see that we need to change our lives so other people can have a life. so other people can have opporutnities and a future. we would all be better off. i wish i could change the world.

If you ask somebody to help change the world.. make sure that that person has any hope left. With that said, I'll leave this topic and wish you the best of luck.

Oh but you can change the world. I truly believe that one person can make a difference and be the catalyst to change! Just take the initiative! And I can see what you're saying!

this. most people, by this stage, have realised the futility of trying to change this situation.
but if everybody, or at least a majority, of people actually saw how selfish we are and decided to make a difference, then it would work. theres power in numbers and if people stopped having this attitude and decided to actually try and do something it would work.
how many people can be bothered doing that, though?

well obviously not vary many. which i find extremely disturbing and almost inhumaine. these people are staving to death. they are slowly dying. they have nothing. and you cant be bothered to think about what you buy, donate some of your spare time and money, use the computer, tv or heater a bit less, or choose a career that is acutally benificial to somebody else. that actually makes me feel sick.

What's wrong with being selfish? Those people earned their money. They have the right to do with it what they please. If the little kids in Africa don't want to starve to death, they can grow their own crops or move somewhere where food is ubiquitous. If they can't, then they'll just die. Big deal. It's nature's way of saying, "you're not fit to live and thus should not live and go on to reproduce."
ok firstly i hope you are just bored and are saying that to be controversial and get a reaction out of me. i really really hope you dont actually believe that. if you do you are exceptionally ignorant. they may have 'earned' that money. but by doing what. sitting in an air conditioned office for 6 hours, only 5 days a week. making a few phone calls. typing in a few numbers. how did they get there? they went to school. sometimes, were rude to teacheres, skipped class, compained about school, got spoon fed everything they needed to know. got given everything they needed- clothes, food, shelter. until they were well and truly old enough to fend for themselves. what do these kids have to do? they have to walk miles and miles to get any water, water which will make them sick. they have to work all day- trying to get food for their family or working in slave labour for close to no money. they have to work in painful, often dangerous, life threatning condiditons when they are as young as 4 years old. your saying that if they didnt want to starve to death they could just move to somewhere where food is 'ubiquitous'... oh yeah because im sure all these people just sit in their little huts thinking 'well... theres a magical field of never ending corn with rainbow waterfall and flower fairies a few miles down the road... but i cant be bothered to move there. i will just sit here on my lazy arse and starve to death as my family members die from cholera and AIDs. you are actually ridiculous. why on earth would they be dying, living in agony, being sold off for child labour and prostituion if they had any other choice! these kids were born into a life where they will never have a chance. they will never get a normal childhood. they will never get to go to school and learn and play with their friends. they will never go to a party or get a birthday present or go on holiday. they will never have a future. unless something changes. you cannot say that people in the first world countries have earned what they have. they were born into a rich life and they will probably always stay that way. they have support all around them, family, friends, government services, to make sure they get what they need to have a real life. these kids were born into nothing. they will have nothing, unless we do something to change that. how can you say they havn't earned the right to a normal life. every child deserves a chance. and they never got one.

most of the people who say that about celebrities are just jealous because they would probably do the same if they had that money. also I'm sure a lot of celebs give money to charity but we just don't hear about it
