Not sure what it does exactly other than compressing unused space.. or something....

But it's something of a standard to defrag periodically.

Pretty much it's just to organize all the information and everything on your computer. I would highly suggest it... It keeps it from getting slowwww...

It's not entirely necessary, it just compresses files and deletes some that you don't need, stuff like that.

*Sigh* Okay... Basically, What a Defrag does is organise everything in your pc and makes it more methodical for the processor and the HDD itself to find.
Imagine a game of tetris, With blocks randomly placed everywhere. Theres gunna be gaps, But if you sort them all out, Theres no gaps, And probably a lot more space. This is what a defrag does

In the context of administering computer systems, defragmentation is a process that reduces the amount of fragmentation in file systems. It does this by physically reorganizing the contents of the disk to store the pieces of each file close together and contiguously. It also attempts to create larger regions of free space using compaction to impede the return of fragmentation. Some defragmenters also try to keep smaller files within a single directory together, as they are often accessed in sequence.
