How many people are prescribed ADD/ADHD medications?

What kind of medications are you prescribed? What do you think has been the most effective for you?

Also do you actually think you HAVE ADD? Or did you just want the help of the medication to concentrate easier?

I'm considering getting prescribed ADD medications because I am a woefully huge procrastinater, and overall I'd just like the benefit of being able to pay attention without so much effort. I don't feel like I have ADD, but I definatly have trouble paying attention in class at times when I'm just bored with the subject material.

I figure as long as I'm not abusing it I'm not much different than any other person taking ADD medications. My friend is prescribed Vivance, and I took a little trial pill from him to see what I thought of it. He said it is one of the most effective pills hes taken as there is no notable comedown or extreme edverse side-effects like he had with Adderal and Ritalin.

I had them for a while. It was Ritalin, I think. It made me really, really sleepy, and my grades went way down. Now I still can't concentrate, but my grades are a lot better, and I'm not tired.

Yeah, I've heard some horror stories from Ritalin.

Alot of people say it made them function less and feel zombified.

Concerta, time release form of ritalin.  it worked at first for me, but my body adjusted within a month or so and they keep having to up the dosage.  yeah, definatly zombifies me to an extent as well.  but its not too bad...  but be careful cause of dependancy stuff.  which is not good.

Concerta was the other one he recommended. He said he was taking Concerta before Vivance, but Vivance seemed to be all the good things from Concerta without the bad.

And does anybody think that they WOULDN'T recommend taking ADD medication to someone who is fairly sure they don't have ADD, but would just like to concentrate more?

start with a REALLY low dose, because on a person without ADD/ADHD they get really crazy sometimes, like insane energy.... i personally wouldn't recomend concerta to anyone but i haven't ever tried anything else...

I'm currently prescribed 60 15 mg Dexedrine Spansules and 90 5 mg Dexedrine for ADD. This is the most effective regiment I've tried so far.
I've also tried Ritalin, FocalinXR, Adderall, Adderall XR, and Vyvanse. With the Ritalin and FocalinXR, it wasn't effective and just caused a lot of side effects. With Adderall, it was about as effective as Dexedrine but caused more side effects. Vyvanse had a sporadic duration and a slow onset.

I'm on Adderall now. I was on Concerta for 6 1/2 years and it never worked for me. All it does is depress your appetite and make you feel sick.

I used to take something around two years ago, but I don't remember what it was. I didn't really notice any positive changes with it, only that it gave me nausea and made me feel tired allll the time. So I ended up getting taken off of it...which was okay because I didn't actually think I had ADHD anyway.
