The first exams are always the hardest. Don't stress upon them.

My theory is if you do not understand it in class when the professor is going over the material you will be screwed in the long run.

Or you may just be a crappy test taker.  Apparently when I got to college, all my test grades have been pretty much on the shit side.

But if you understand whats going on in class, review here and there.  You should succeed!

But remember, if you don't know it and try to study what you don't know... then you are getting no where.  Just ask a few classmates to show you the basics if you are still lost.

For example, during the summer and Christmas breaks.

I usually have all my notes for my texts done before the course starts. Then, look over your notes like 30 mins EACH DAY. Study slightly more before the exam.
This works best for science and math courses. For other courses, it shouldn't matter if you study or not.
for example,  business courses are mostly luck and how you're feeling on the day of the exam. 96% got curved to a C in my marketing class, so take those classes if you are feeling lucky. This is going to be the last business course that I'll ever take.
