QUESTION:  Do you think it's rude to hide food/snacks and keep them for yourself?

So... my mom and sister seem to finish up a lot of the little snacks I get.  Like my roommate got some big bags of chocolate, and I decided I would take a few off her hands (They were mini ones).  So, I don't even have any, and just put them in the cabinet where I keep all my other little snacks that I can grab and go before I go to school.

Three days later, no chocolate left, and I never got to have one :(.  I mean, it happens often... and my mom keeps telling me that I can't get these things because my sister doesn't have as much control as I do for these foods.  I don't have other problems with my snacks, because they don't like them as much, but my sister also went and ate my little individual baggies of chips...

I just hate the thought of keeping food to 'myself'.  I think it's very rude, but I also really would like to have some more 'fatty' foods that I could use as a snack every now and then.  But any of those... don't last long, and my mom just tells me it's not fair because she and my sister eat them.

I mean, my sister and I buy groceries together, we both pay for them... I shouldn't keep some things just to myself, right?  Maybe next time, I'll buy something, separate my portion out and put it in my room?  Would they still be insulted by that...?

No, I don't think it's rude to hide a couple of things so you can eat them later lol.  If I didn't do it, I'd never have sweets at home.

You're entitled to do it. They eat it, so why can't you keep some for yourself? I mean, it really gets on my nerves when I buy something and I look and it's gone. Not because they ate it, but because they never asked.

Keep some for yourself, you both pay, but she usually eats it and there's none left for you. Of course you're entitled to keeping some.

If they're insulted, just explain to them why you've done it. Also, if you hide them, they will think you've ate it. :p

Don't feel bad about it.

Well, I don't mind if they ate it... I mean, they don't have to ask to eat some of the food, because it's not really 'my food', just because I bought it, you know?  It's just... sometimes I never get any.

I mean, with my mom visiting, I can understand that they may not even realize.  If it was just me and my sister, then she would know the more she ate, the less I got.  But I asked my mom about the chocolate, and she said, "did you have any?", and I said... no, not even one on the first day.  And she said... "oh, oops".  So I mean... they can't exactly know who eats what, and I acknowledge that..

Oh... but the last time I did have some food in my room, they would come in and take it as well... LOL.  Oh well.  I just... don't want them to feel that they CAN'T have any, but I also know that my sister (and me too) sometimes go a bit overboard and eat too much.

I live with 2 brothers... so I kind of do that even when I get pepsi. I hate doing it and miss the simple fact where I don't have to do it (I moved back home to help catch up on bills). Our main rule is if someone's name is on it, you ask that person- otherwise don't touch it.

Haha, ah.

Well, you are entitled to it too. And it is your right to hide some food for yourself, as you pay half.

I'm sure they won't think that they can't have any, especially if you don't take all of it, just half of it, as you pay half of the bill. I think that's fair. :)
