I have to do an essay on this topic for my law class in about a month and I was wondering what people thought about the topic.

Because currently convicted offenders aren't allowed to vote.

Do you forfiet your right to vote when you disobey the laws of society?

The right to vote is not a priviledge, it is a RIGHT granted to every US citizen, regardless of class, race or ANYTHING. If the criminals are citizens then they should vote.

True, but what if they're in for life? Or on death row (in the the American states that allow it)

Will the laws really effect them? They still have other rights that can't be touched in a democratic society. So unless we all went communism. They'd be fine.

But I still like your point.

No, they gave up their rights.

Once they are released, or on probation I see no problem.

But they've been taken away from society for a reason -- trying to limit the interaction they have with society.
