The year my class mates learned how to do this i was in the states. In the states you learn it a bit later.

I'm so behind...have been for a year. I don't get how to solve them...how to recognize them etc...

example: simplify.

(a-b)^2(a^2+b^2-2ab)

Please help me? I have a way to solve the above problem, but witha w whole new thing..I'd be stumped.

i think seeing as its an example, it looks like a method on how to do them...not an actual question you have to answer

I don't want to solve anything. I accidentally put solve, I meant simplfy, but I edon't need to solve that problem. I need a method to generally solve them.

That's one of the identities for a binomial. In this case, it's a difference of cubes.

Simplified is:

a^3 - b^3

Factored is the
(a-b)^2(a^2+b^2-2ab)

For example:

x^3 - 27    You know both of them can be cubed perfectly.

So that gives you your first set which is (x-3)

To get the 2nd, for the first term, it's the square of the a, the 2nd term is the product of both, with an opposite sign from the original, and the 3rd term is the square of b.

Which is (x^2 + 3x + 9)

So factored, is

(x-3)(x^2 +3x + 9)

Look familiar? :D
