Kindred is a book about a black woman with a white husband who is sent back in time (not out of free will), gets all abused and scarred emotionally through all her experiences there, then loses her arm at the end of the book when she is finally sent home for good. Weird book, sort of sci fi. Written by Octavia Butler. I have to write an essay, no real prompt. I chose to write about the correlation of emotional and physical scarring. I need a personal experience of this (or one I've witnessed), a world example, and a philosophy that can relate.
I figure I can write about depression and self injury and whatnot for the personal. The philosophy... I think maybe soft determinism? If something emotionally hurts, it will hurt physically, and that can be pre determined.
But for the world example?! Emotional pain is a... personal thing.
Help?
