who was jokingly (or so he always claimed) saying that he liked Russia better, "You know, you better be thankful getting to be here considering the life you had back in Russia."
Of course he gets defensive going "I was joking, just joking, am soary." I was thinking, what he should have said was, "Well you know, considering that you were born here, shouldn't you be more thankful than I? You didn't have to spend the first fifteen years of your life in an orphanage."
And besides that, (I think I've said this before) although I don't think this kid was a citizen, I also don't get the whole "You came to this country so don't complain" mantra. Shouldn't the people who've actually earned their citizenship have as much if not more of a right to complain than people who it was just given to? You don't look a gift horse in the mouth, but feel free complain about the horse you've bought yourself.
